Victory for Waterwatch UK: Our Proposal to Be Discussed at the Next Water Quality Summit!

We are thrilled to share a major milestone in our journey to empower communities and drive real change in water governance. Last night, David Burton-Sampson MP called to inform us that our proposal for the future of the Water Summits will now be discussed at tomorrow’s Water Quality Summit.

This is a huge step forward in ensuring that these summits evolve into a truly community led platform, where local voices are heard and action is taken. While we are disappointed that the proposal documents were not shared in advance as promised, we want to make sure that everyone attending the summit, and the wider public, has access to them. You can find the full documents on our website, and we encourage all participants to review them and share any questions or feedback.

The question of who will take on stewardship of the Water Summits is up for a democratic vote at a future summit, but we are hopeful that the independent committee will be given this responsibility. We already have vast support from existing community members, and we believe that a truly independent, community led model is the best way forward.

Over the next month or two, we will continue working alongside key stakeholders, including MPs David Burton-Sampson and Bayo Alaba, Southend City Council, Anglian Water, and the Environment Agency, to ensure that the Water Summits remain a powerful tool for transparency, accountability, and meaningful action.
